Beautiful place to hike and get a scenic view of Woodbury from the fire tower that stands at the peak of the trail. The Orenaug Fire Tower was built in 1911 and was the lookout for fires within the Pomperaug River Valley, it stands 260 feet above Woodbury’s Main Street and 520 feet above sea level.
Orenaug is the native American Indian name for the trap rock cliffs.
We had a great hike here with some Scouts. The trails and views are best and the fire tower is a big surprise. The only downsides is the trash near the tower(it looks like the local kids hang out there) and the graffiti on the tower can be inappropriate. In a small town with a limited budget there probably isn't much they can do. If you go bring a bag and pick up a few items and we can make it better together.
Sharp uphill trails but scenery beautiful and isolated
This place is great for a hike. Beautiful trails along a cliff with amazing views. Climb up the fire tower for an even better view for miles over the valley. Look hard enough and you just might find a geo cache.
