When tourists flock to the National Mall, locals flee to Rock Creek Park, the largest green space in Washington, D.C. Mainly in Northwest D.C., it starts near the Kennedy Center and winds north for miles. On a good day, it's full of runners, bikers, urban hikers, and thousands of people enjoying all it has to offer. It has a horse center, an amphitheater, historic bridges, Civil War forts, the old U.S. Capitol stones, playgrounds, workout stations, and so much more.
Great place for gatherings as well as hiking. I take Saturday morning walks in this park, following the paths is always an adventure because you always find interesting things in nature.
Rock Creek Park is a fabulous park in the middle of Washington, DC. It has great running and biking trails and forms an island of tranquility in the middle of the city. It's also effecrtively home to the National Zoo. Several of the roads are closed to vehicles on weekends, making it a great place to walk or bike. I'm very glad we have this park in the city.
A very large park full of trees. Incredible to such a park inside the city, very close to downtown! It’s kinda our local park - great place to hang out, ride a horse, and to do hiking along the water.
This is one of my favorite places to escape from the DC life. The farther north you go, the more nature and trails you find. Perfect running spot!
The Rock Creek Park Planetarium uses high-tech Spitz software to project the image of the night sky onto a large, dome-shaped ceiling. Civil War fortifications, working mills, colonial houses, and thousands of years of DC history. You can explore it all in Rock Creek Park.
