Hello to anyone reading this review. So, you want to come to Somerset Middle School? I’ve been attending Somerset since I was in kindergarten, so I know a lot about this school. In my review, i’ve mentioned the good and bad parts of this school. While it is a bit lengthy, it’s very detailed & will definitely help you decide if you’d like to come here. Before I start, I’d like to mention that I’m writing this with an anonymous name. So, let’s begin!
First of all, you’ve got some teachers that really care about their students’ grades, and then you’ve got the teachers that really don’t care about anything at all. It really sucks that some of the teachers are just in it for the money, because the other teachers that actually care are really amazing. I’ve been at Somerset for my whole life, and I’m now graduating middle school, so I’d just like to explain many things about this school. First of all, I love the zero tolerance for bullying policy. Sure, someone may get picked on, but it’s very minimal. The school will never let someone get bullied & have the bully get away with it. It’s great. Second, I’d like to touch on what kind of environment this school has. Basically, it’s pretty calm & MOST of the students are very friendly and welcoming. There aren’t any drugs or inappropriate things happening in our school, which is good! Whenever drugs do happen to get into the school (it never happens, I think it’s happened twice in the last 8 years that i’ve been here..) our principal, Mr. Montero, is VERY quick to expel the students that brought the drugs onto the campus. Also, I’d like to mention that our school is a very safe and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ students!! We have a GSA group, and everyone is very accepting towards the lgbt community. Now, while there are a ton of good things about this school, there’s a few bad things as well. Remember how I mentioned that some teachers are uninspired?? Well, that’s a really big issue. There are many teachers, specifically in the middle school, that really don’t care about anything at all. They are just there to earn their money & go home. Most of these teachers are in the Language Arts department, but not all of them are. There are some great Language Arts teachers, such as Ms. Silverio, but the majority of teachers in that department are very lazy. They never put the grades in the grade book on time, their way of teaching is super complicated and unnecessary, and you can just tell that they don’t care about the students at all. However, this isn’t all of the teachers, just some of them.
Now, if you’re coming to the middle school for the first time, I would like to explain the electives to you. Sixth graders get to choose one of their electives, while seventh and eighth graders get to choose two. So, which ones should you choose? We have a variety of electives. We’ve got dance & colour guard, speech and debate, theatre, spanish & italian, art, band, creative writing & journalism, business keyboarding, etc. To see all of the electives, visit the school website! The electives I would choose are Speech and Debate, Theatre, and Art. The teachers for these electives are outstanding & they’ve got a great way of teaching. All three of these electives help you break out of your shell & learn more about yourself. They’re honestly great & you get treated like family in those electives.
Well, I think I’m going to wrap up now. Somerset is a great place to come to. You’ll make some great friends & learn a lot about yourself here. Most of the staff treat you like family. While there are some ups and downs, this place is great and I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.
