  My mother and I brought my stepfather to the Sunrise inpatient hospice unit earlier this month. The attending physician was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. It was a difficult time for us but Bernie, Dr. Politzer, Maria and Veronica were so very attentive. I have worked in a nursing home before that I thought was pretty good...but this facility was extremely clean and neat. Since we were there I’ve spoke with others who had the same impression.

  I want to thank the staff for treating my Dad with such dignity and respect. Very kind and compassionate. The facility was clean and comfortable. They have a kitchen, a living room, a quiet sitting room. It was perfect. The patients rooms are very spacious. Our entire family was able to be with my Dad when he passed. It was a beautiful experience.
  Losing someone you love is the hardest time in ones life, VITAS helped make it more comfortable.

  I was concerned that VITAS has a three star patient safety rating. My complaint is that we waited for pain medications for a terribly long time, eg. 30+ minutes at least twice that I witnessed. Once the nurse was preoccupied with a disposition another during shift change. Since no one is on shift alone, it seems reasonable for a fellow team member to assist with the pain med request for the week our patient was there. Aside from that, the facility was nice. The kitchen, waiting room, bathrooms, and halls were truly clean and inviting.

  Caring staff, clean, quiet, attractive facility. Family kitchen and living room areas available. Does not smell, and patients are quiet and primarily in their rooms. Pets are allowed to visit. Visiting hours are 24 hours a day.
  
  Be aware that the social worker will pressure you to have your loved one moved to a nursing facility if their passing is not imminent. While this is understandable, it is also stressful during such a difficult time.
