I would have given 5 stars, but the pricing of the food is high. I sort of expected the price to be high, given how I pronounce the name of the place.
Taste wise, my family and I enjoyed it. We tried the fried chicken, sweet potato soufle (that's what we call it), fried pork chops, man n' cheese, collard greens and oxtail. There aren't many places you can find soul food here, besides your own kitchen or grandparents kitchen, so they are a welcomed addition. With Covid, I'm not sure they will come down in price, but if I'm in the mood and want to splurge, I'll definitely pay them a visit!
This testaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. We ordered take out - Oxtail Dinner and Catfish Dinner. It was prepared without having to wait long. The catfish is fried when ordered instead of sitting under a heat lamp (big plus).
Each dinner came with rice and 2 sides. There aren't many vegetable choices, so you can load up on the carbs.
All of the food we ordered seemed fresh. I thought the yellow rice was bland but my husband disagreed. The oxtails were tender and nice. The catfish was crisp but I expected more seasoning for soul food.
The sides were decent size - a little small for my husband. Mac and Cheese was loaded with cheese. Sweet potatoes were sweet and tender - not mushy. I didn't order collard greens but my friend said they were very good just too many stalks.
Overall the food was fresh, pretty tasty, and well prepared. However the portion size was a little small considering the price we paid.
The food is good enough to give this restaurant a try.
We stopped by not to long before closing and they were mostly sold out already but we still were able to try the fried chicken Mac and cheese and green beans… let me tell you… it was amazing! Truly tasted homemade and fresh! The chicken was nice and hot the flavor was on point! Everyone was so nice and we will definitely be back to try more from the menu! Thank you for bringing some really good comfort soul food to Davenport!
By far the best local food in town. The fried chicken is too DIE for, along with the Mac N' Cheese and Collared Greens are amazing. Auntie is such a genuine person as well, and I am SO glad to have found this spot.
