Pennie Fabrics

This place is a fashion sewist’s dream and well worth the trip. Each room is filled with designer fabrics from Italy, France, NYC and beyond. I thought the prices were more reasonable here than what you’d find for similar fabrics in the Garment District in New York. Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. I love the fact that they also offer classes, and while I was in town I took advanced patternmaking classes with Susan, who really knows her stuff. The store works hard to foster a sense of community with local fashion sewists by hosting a monthly Show & Share session. I really wish there was a Pennie Fabrics in my area!

I had a great experience at Pennie Fabrics in Sarasota! The owner Nasir was very kind and extremely knowledgeable. And, when I told him that I was a beginner, he introduced me to the sewing instructors who were eager to show me around the training classroom and also gave me some great advice. I will definitely be signing up for their next class. The selection and quality of fabrics was incredible.

If you’re looking for specialty dressmaking fabrics, this place is perfect. The owner is very knowledgeable and there is a wide selection of beautiful fabrics available. I found two lovely eyelash fabrics that were perfect for my project. Can’t wait to use them!

What an awesome hidden gem fabric shop in a converted house! The owner was extremely kind and welcoming. The fabrics are great quality with lots of options for apparel making. I purchased some beautiful silks that I can't wait to use, and the pricing was very reasonable. I'm looking forward to visiting again!

I found my Happy Place. My first visit to Pennie Fabric but will not be my last. Tampa Bay has no decent apparel fabric shops and this place was worth the hour trip. Online shopping is touch-and-go. Nothing beats being able to actually touch the fabric and feel the drape. I will definitely be back. Nasir is one of those old school New York fabric sellers. He very knowledgeable and shares willingly. The prices were fabulous for the quality of fabric he carries. Silk, Mohair, Wool, you name it. And he carries a LOT! I was pretty lucky and had him all to myself. He even rolled my fabric on rolls for me. Highly, highly recommend the place. Worth a special trip if you are passing anywhere near Sarasota.
