If you're coming to visit the botanical garden, taking a guided tour is a must. There are few descriptive information panels. Mostly only tags with the plant names on them (the red ones indicate endangered species). When you are done with the guided tour, hike up (paved road) to the Waimea Falls for a little dip in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Caution: life vest mandatory, provided by the lifeguard.
Absolutely stunning. Most unique flora and fauna I've ever seen. Absolutely a must see when in Hawaii. There is just no place that has vegetation like this. It's almost alien like, out of this world. A lot of the views and large plans just remind you of jurrasic park.
First- if you want to swim in the waterfall, go early. The staff need to clean so the waterfall closes at least a half hour before the gardens. To leisurely move through the gardens and waterfall, you’ll want to give yourself a solid five hours inside. Also expect a crowd at the waterfall. Access to the extensive gardens and swimming in the falls is very cost effective. The gardens themselves are incredibly picturesque and peaceful. There is a section dedicated to the making and originator of leis which I suspect is awe inspiring when in full bloom. There are signs warning against interacting with or antagonizing the peacocks. They were large and impressive. We kept our distance. Bring bug spray. There’s water and soil and plant life so there are some biting bugs. If you forget, the souvenir shop at the entrance likely has natural spray behind the counter. It worked well for us. Just ask for it. I would keep an eye out for fast driving staff in golf carts if you have little ones. Definitely a good day trip!
What a place-located in North Beach area of Oahu, just in land of a gorgeous beach and if you are into beautiful scenery and horticulture this place has it all.
Could have strolled and read about exotic plants all day-include almost every native Hawaiian plant plus they trace many that came from Polynesian Islands.
Nice 1.5 mile stroll that ends at the famous Waimea Falls-lovely site and nice place to take a dip and pose for pictures even for this 68 year old youngster.
Best of all -totally paved and motorized wheelchair accessible.
Nice short and easy walk, ...reward...a swim in the waterfall👍
Fast walk 12mn each way, slow walk ..all day.
Great for kids, romantic for couple, fun for family and friends.
Plenty of flowers, trees, u can follow the main path or go up or down in every directions for "mini" adventures.
Snack food and a souvenir store at the end!
Not cheap but a great way to spent some time as visitors or locals...reconnect w nature?!?!❤
