This review is long overdue!
I worked with Chris the summer of 2021 and he was great! First lesson he started off with safety tips because in his own words "before I teach you how to swim, I want to teach you how to not die." Cue outrageous fit of laughter and all my nerves going away.
And that is an example of what made working with him so much fun. He ensures your safety always, and tries to make sure your comfortable and not overthinking. He constantly reminds you of how far you've come and will spend as much time on something as is needed to ensure you not only learned the skill but are confident in your own ability.
I feel like a capable swimmer and I have spent more time in the water than ever before because I feel confident in my ability to not die. Lol
I took a series of lessons from Chris because I wanted to become more comfortable with swimming in the ocean. These lessons went beyond my expectations - Chris has a clear, consistent and encouraging teaching style, and a great sense of humour. I have a greater respect for the difference between ocean and pool swimming. My technique has improved and I feel more confident swimming in the ocean than I thought possible. Chris is an incredible coach that anyone would be lucky to work with.
Chris is a wonderful swimming coach. I tried to learn to swim before but never succeeded. I didn't expect that I would be able to learn to swim this time, but Chris has made wonders happen, and I can finally swim now, and I am not afraid of the water anymore. So, Chris taught us survival skills on the sea, which I suppose should be very useful.
Also, Chris is a very interesting character, has his unique way of humor and fun to be around with.
I was afraid of swimming (let alone open waters like the sea), and now after a full set of classes, I can confidently say that I can swim without fear. Coach Chris is very patient and encouraging. After every instruction, Chris first goes over what went right in the session and then where you need to improve. He is always positive and has the student's best interest in mind. He goes over the safety precautions you need to take before you venture out into open water swimming. Then, he works with you on your technique till you get it right. He made me think rather than just telling me what to do in a given situation, which I really value as it helps not panic in a sticky situation. I definitely got hold of the freestyle. I no longer remain on the shallow side. I highly recommend Chris (The O'ahu Swim Academy) for anyone (of all ages) who wants to learn to swim.
Chris is a great instructor! I'm someone who is typically in my head and Chris helped me become more aware of my body by having me focus on what I was feeling and doing (as well as why). I took swim classes years ago and this was much better because of Chris' guidance and helpful inquiry. Instead of just telling you what to fix, he encourages students to come to the answer and thereby allows students to have a greater understanding of how to navigate the waters. I highly recommend Chris. You won't regret it! 😃
