The Kapolei 24 Hour Fitness is an absolute gem! As one of the few gym options in the area, it's a lifesaver for locals looking to stay fit. I'm particularly impressed by the gym's equipment, especially the Olympic lifting platforms that are perfect for strength training.
I’ve found that visiting in the mid-morning is ideal, as the gym is typically less crowded. While some reviews mention overcrowding, I believe it’s about timing and flexibility. If a piece of equipment is unavailable, simply switch to another exercise and return to it later. It's a great way to keep your workout dynamic!
The pool is an unexpected bonus. It’s an excellent cardio option and is almost always empty, providing a peaceful escape within the gym environment. Additionally, the gym's affordability makes it an even better value. The staff is friendly and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Kapolei 24 Hour Fitness to anyone seeking a convenient, affordable, and enjoyable fitness experience. For what it is, Five stars!
I’ve been coming to this gym for 3 years consecutively. For what you pay for, this gym meets the criteria. Gyms in a Hawaii are a scarcity. I would love to acknowledge one individual in particular, Tony. As a part of the cleaning crew Tony is always friendly and reminds me why I pay for this gym.
Tony is an exceptional worker, standing out for his proactive approach and impeccable cleanliness. His initiative shines through as he takes on tasks before they're even assigned, streamlining operations any organization would be pleased to have him.
Great gym with a good layout. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. As an example, staff member Tony S. works diligently and is friendly with gym members and is very professional. Before he was hired, the cleanliness of the facility had been on the decline. But he has taken ownership of his duties and has created a noticeable difference in the cleanliness of the area. An all around great gym comprised of good people.
Some recommendations: upon reading other reviews, there are complaints about the gym being crowded, the equipment being poorly maintained, and the equipment being dated.
The crowded aspect seems fine to me as gym members are very friendly here. A crowded gym should mean business is good, and that the gym should be open for years to come. That segues nicely into the next point, which is about the facility maintenance. The machines, once broken, stay broken for a very long time. If the gym is busy, it is made worse when equipment goes down. Knowing that there is no magic fix to make the space larger, and that having lots of clientele is good for business, I would spend lots of energy on maintaining the equipment and prioritizing fixing what I had under my control.
Lastly is a note on the available equipment. There is only 1 smith machine in the entire place. Considering the popularity of hip thrusts, and the resurgence in popularity of smith machines in general, I would say 4-5 smith machines would be a better number. There should also be doubles of some of the more popular machines, such as the leg extension (the one on the east side of the building. The one on the west side of the building is inferior in design as it pivots, and should be replaced with one like that on the east side). The glute focused machine is a kick-back style and should be replaced with a plated hip thrust machine, citing 1) the machine is not good at isolating any muscle under load and 2) the current popularity of hip thrusts. There is also an overall feeling of a need for more hamstring-focused equipment. The cable-and-pulley based machines lined up on the western wall (abeam the men’s locker room) are also of low value and rightly the least popular of all the equipment. I would recommend replacing these with newer, more sought after equipment, such as those things I’ve mentioned.
In order to better utilize the space, I would also clear out the trainer corner on the south side of the building. There are several computers and an open-office area there currently, and if cleared out it could be turned into another large rack of dumbbells and benches such as those on the northern wall.
