Yeehaw and cowboy up for the greatest learning experience of your life! This educational institution is by far the best one I have enrolled in since my very birth. The teachers I studied under were incredible and extremely helpful so long as I let them know of any concerns, and asked them repeatedly when I had no idea what we were just asked to do, or what we were talking about. I already miss many of them, and I am not going to name names because the list would be legendarily long. I'm going to avoid making this review too long, but I've got a lot to say so buckle up I guess. I am not sure of quite how different Renaissance is from any other high school because it is the only one I've ever attended, but that alone is undoubtedly a testament to my satisfaction with the quality of education that I received, and I can easily tell you that I never once considered leaving the school a good idea. What I learned in these halls was not only the information I needed to continue in my career and get a high school diploma, but also how to deal with seemingly impossible tasks and using preparation over procrastination. I plan on sending my own children here, in the event that I do eventually obtain children of my own, and I shall praise the name of Renaissance High School from the highest of hilltops for decades to come (metaphorically). During my time at Renaissance, I was part of the Associates degree program which enabled me to acquire an associate of arts in general studies by the time I graduated high school despite only having set foot within a college for a short summer geology course. This program enabled me to get this associates degree a a ridiculously low price in comparison to doing it in college after graduating from high school. This ridiculously low price was not only a beautiful monetary investment but also a glorious time investment, as I've just traded a summer or two of school and probably some extra college related workload for two less years spent in college, and a super inexpensive degree. (There is also an IB program which I think is the main point of the school but I mostly ignored it. For those looking for a different kind of educational challenge, know that IB is available and is just as challenging and life-changing as far as I know). Because I actually experienced the associates program, I can tell you that the teachers we studied under had to meet certain requirements as set by the colleges they were awarding us credit through and this is probably where a student may find difficulty as we are learning college level material, as far as I know (I also have never been to college, other than that one geology course, but I'm pretty sure it was about the same difficulty, I hope to find out very soon how different college learning in high school is from the same thing at college). I've already stated before that I'm not sure quite how different Renaissance is from other high schools, but in my opinion it was about as difficult as I expected education to be following middle school. Although unlike middle school I did actually begin to study for my classes, and sometimes I'd do homework for the whole day and sleep, but man was it worth it. If you are currently attending this school and you feel like quitting, I IMPLORE you to continue to push onward, you've made it this far right? There are resources to help you accomplish your goals, services like the language lounge or even a study group can make the difference, possibly even examine your recreation outside of school and take some time to prepare. I didn't enter this school with a whole lot of acquaintances, and I can tell you with full confidence my closest friends all went to different schools, but someone there should be like minded so you can make new friends.
A note from the author?:
I thought it'd be funny to put a picture of myself at the end of the review but when I went to upload it I accidentally deleted the review so hopefully I remembered most of it correctly (the format and order of topics has definitely changed). Also I'm out of characters :(
I attended this school a couple years ago. I reflect back on my times here and remember how I broadened the way I understood the world through attending the classes provided. This school is rigourous and attracts an eccentric crowd of people who are often willing to dress up, express themselves loudly, or voice their opinion in small groups. The teachers are well chosen and classes are typically engaging. Renaissance tended to have a homework problem because classes were covering so much information.
For any of you who are deciding whether or not to attend, read this.
This school will chew you up and spit you out. I attended here for all 4 years of high school, and in those 4 years I saw 75% of my freshman class drop out. Getting a perfect grade point average is nearly impossible, and some of the projects you, will do,will completely baffle you.
That being said, I wouldn't have chosen to go anywhere else. This school has a culture where if people don't know something they ask to find it out. I went there with some of the brightest people I had ever met, and the school is full of people with incredible work ethics.
If you're like me (not particularlygreat student due to lack of motivation) this is the perfect school for you. But if you are the kind of student who had straight A's your whole life and can't imagine getting a B, this isn't for you. And to all the parents who think that they should force their kids to attend, Don't. The kids who don't want to be there don't last.
Renaissance is truly a unique educational experience that isn't for everyone. It's very rigorous, and this causes a lot of people to drop by Junior year. By then, the students that have stayed share a lot of the same interests, and the culture is one of very passionate youth who have a burning desire to learn and succeed. The IB program is one that is offered here, at the only public IB school in the state. The other program students have the opportunity to take is the Associate of Arts program, which lets students get 2 years of college out of the way, but only at an in-state institution.
This school is such a unique high school, and while it is not for everyone, it is certainly an exemplary school for scholars who treasure education and a challenge. Once those who did not quite belong at such a school had come to the realization and left, what students remained were academic, passionate, intelligent, and mature. The teachers legitimately cared about our education and went above and beyond in every regard to give us the education we needed, and are some of the most competent people I know. Renaissance is what unarguably prepared me for my future of attending an ivy league institution, and I do not regret attending this high school for a second.
