“For me it was 60 years ago, '56 to '58, I too was not openly welcomed, not being Polish-by church (the students were overwhelmingly accepting), but after they found out I was just trying to get by, trying out for class clown, it was great! Two of my long time friends graduated with me-I can't say that about, HS, Col, or the Military during war. The Monsignor would say the mass in Polish, we students were tasked with keeping our classroom spotless-we were on our knees with brillo pads more than once. I ceased being an altar boy there, over a disagreement over their tradition of having the servers pay $25 to pay for cleaning of our altar apparel (7th grade Sister V. chided me almost endlessly that I was accusing her of using that money to buy a 'Gold Cadillac-an Elvis reference). Wouldn't trade it!”
