Khmai

The food was delicious. Every bite is packed with flavor. If you aren't able to handle spicy food let the server know. If you aren't familiar with the cuisine, I'd recommend going with a group of friends who are adventurous eaters. The food is easy to share with others especially if you order small plates and appetizers along with the big dishes. The way our meal was served was in increments - bringing one dish out at a time, and I think that was a clever way of introducing the flavors. I would highly recommend ordering the Amok Trei (fish) it is flavoured in a coconut based sauce and is absolutely mouth watering.
If you have a seafood allergy I would double check before going. I believe a lot of the dishes contain fish, fish sauce, or fish or shrimp paste.

The restaurant's interior had a charming ambiance. However, our experience with the service left us a bit unsatisfied. Despite arriving before other tables, our food took over 45 minutes to arrive, and the server didn't check on us during this time.

As for the food, we explored the traditional Khmai section of the menu and found the dishes to be generally flavorful, but none stood out as exceptional. On the other hand, the drinks were a delight, and I particularly loved the spiced mango daiquiri.

Overall, it was a decent dining experience. We might consider giving Khmai another try in the future as they mentioned that they update their menu seasonally.

Khmai fine dining is not just a restaurant but an experience. I will highly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy exquisite cuisine in a very warm and welcoming environment.

I tried Cambodian cuisine for the first time and was blown away. The chef is very good and the meals were very delicious and well presented.

Every meal tells a story and almost feels like it was coming straight from mama’s pots to your table. The meals were excellent and the servers were warm, friendly and have great customer service.

They have a show that tells the stories about how the recipes were born and that makes you anticipate the next meal. Please call the restaurant and inquire the days they do this and thank me later but there was never a dull moment.

Did I mention the bar? Well, there is so much to say but I rather you experience it for yourself .I haven’t stop talking about my experience to my co workers and we are making plans to visit very soon.

I think it's the 1st Cambodian on the North Side of Chicago (or as a whole). Really great service and really good food. Diverse staff. Great space, I felt like I was at a friend's house. Super welcoming environment 🙏🏽. Everything I had was great, the dip however has a very, very strong aroma. Tastes great but is beyond pungent, if you can handle the aroma of jackfruit and the like you will be just fine like me. The shrimp rolls were amazing with the dipping sauce. Definitely check the place out if you want to try something new and/or authentic.

A long anticipated first time at Khmai and had such a great experience! The staff was fantastic, super helpful and friendly. The food was amazing as expected with unique flavours, generous portions, and perfectly well balanced. Although Cambodian food isn’t a cuisine I have super often, I found their menu incredibly approachable while still maintaining their authenticity. One of my new favourite spots and will definitely be back!
