Vollmer Road Grove

One of my favorite places to run. The Vollmer Road Grove is easy to get to, has sufficient parking, and is a decent distance in length.

I prefer a longer trail - this one is 3.6 miles if you do the whole loop - but it's also very conveniently located. You can get a longer trail in Palos or Orland or Willow Springs - or Schaumberg - but Vollmer Grove is local and convenient.

Also, unlike many of the other trails in the South 'burbs, the trail does not cross any public streets. This trail is entirely self contained, yet has several neighborhood access points in case you need to bail out for any reason (such as a turn in weather) or if you want to enter off the main road.

The trail is wooded canopy for most of the way, but the last third has an open meadow to one side and woodlands on the other. It's a nice, easy run (or walk). It's only 3.6 miles, but when you are pressed for time or simply want an uninterrupted run this is the place to go.
