I unfortunately have been to many funerals but never had to help plan one. The wonderful staff went above and beyond for the family to help. They were honest and by far the most humble and less expensive than others around. They made us feel like part of their own family. It can't be easy to do what they do, and to have so many people who are in a fog of emotions create demands to be met. Ms. Shirley is such a sweet soul who I feel like is an angel. Her voice is so calming and sincere. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Thank you for all of your help! You all have my unconditional gratitude!
I recently had a service for my mother at this funeral home. The staff went above and beyond assisting me, they were very compassionate, caring.
They were very professional in sitting down with me during the initial arrangements allowing me to take time in understanding what options I have and suits my needs. I was very taken back by their concern for me and my siblings and not thinking of what their bottom line would be.
During the visitation they allowed me the time and space for my family and friends to pay our respects to my Mother. At the Church they were very professional and caring, very attentive.
Just wanted to say, I was just recently at this Funeral home for a funeral. And I don't think that any of the past comments are just. This place was very clean, organized and amazing. The staff was amazing and nice and would recommend this place to anyone in the future.
Having read these horrid reviews, I am of the opinion that neither reviewer were the ones who (a) sat down with the staff to make arrangements and (b) were not financially responsible for the funeral. That said, several of my own family members had their funerals at James and I was always treated with respect and dignity. When I signed the contract to have my loved one's funeral there, it was with the understanding that visitation BEGINS and ENDS at set times.
Perhaps if a notice was given by a staff member before the service concluded, did you ever consider it was done as a courtesy that friends and family who were lingering outside the chapel might have an opportunity to pay their last respects?
And yes, kids are kids, but would you want a group of children running through your home, accidently knocking over things, darting through crowds of people and possibly hurting themselves or others? Adult supervision . . . of children;that's called 'home training 101', or having respect for other people's property.
I've attended friend's wakes at James over the years and I've seen for myself how people will wait until the last minute and then attempt to 'bum-rush' or even push the funeral directors away from the casket as it's about to be closed, when they had ample time to talk with family and view the remains over a period of at least four hours.
Every time I've been there, 'snacks' were provided and families are allowed to bring in their own sodas, coffee, juice, sandwiches, and so forth.
I will not downplay the weight of your grief nor that of anyone else as I've sat in the same place of mourning. But even in my grief and pain, I did not allow my emotions to negate the agreement I made when I signed the contract for the services provided.
Yes, funeral service is a business (what a surprise) and all funeral homes have a responsibility to be on time, especially if they have to set up for a church service at another location in the early morning hours or be at a cemetery by a certain time after a service, that they or the family might not be assessed a late fee.
I'm sorry for your loss and I pray that time has healed your heart.
