As a long-time resident of Council Bluffs, I can say from experience that, in my humble opinion, I believe our Streets Department has shown themselves to do an excellent job at clearing our streets during the winter season year.
From the most recent blizzard (occurred on a Saturday), the Streets Department at Public Works took really just three days to get the main roads and thoroughfares in Council Bluffs cleared. Quite the feat for the extraordinary amount of snowfall, and which was on par for the State DOT's efforts, which still saw some snow-packed sections on the interstate within the city limits in the same time-frame.
In understanding that the city of Omaha is much larger (but must have more resources, respectively), our Council Bluffs Public Works has performed proportionately well. Even compared to Glenwood, a much smaller town (but also, understandably, likely working with less resources), who can't even clean their streets to the level seen in our town.
Just wanted to shout out to Council Bluffs Public Works and share my appreciation. I'm sure there are those in residential areas which are less traveled that don't understand that there is a specific route, priority and time-frame that fluctuates with every snowfall who would rather vehemently disagree with me in touting the efforts put forth from this department, but I would also argue that those people possess ignorance enough to prevent them from realizing the amount of work, time and effort that go into servicing Council Bluffs in its ENTIRETY, and not just their individual neighborhoods. For those that fit into this category, just a reminder that we live in the Midwest and there is nary a year that goes by that we don't have to endure these same or similar conditions. And for those out plowing the streets around the clock: Keep up the great work!!
