DO NOT MISS THIS LITTLE GEM IN SHAWNEE KANSAS!!
This Museum collection set in the building that used to belong to the Johnson County Museum Society is exceptional!
It contains a lifetime collection of a local physician and encompasses the world of ancient medicine up to the present time.
You will not want to pass this one by even during covid-19 and isolatio....why?? Because It recounts the past epidemics, including polio and smallpox. It includes a wall of fame on some of the most renowned contributors to medicine and Science in the world. It has rooms filled with old pharmaceutical remedies and treatments that some of us might even remember from the 1940s and 50s and 60s. It has ancient tribal artifacts and stories from our past and from other countries around the world.
It shows the strength and resilience of people, the gift and sacrifices of caregivers and the ancient remedies that got us to where we are today. Put on some comfortable shoes and spend a few hours enriching your life experience.
Thank you Dr. Bruce Hodges for your inspiring collection and for taking the time to bring this jewel back to Shawnee KS!!!
Scheduled a tour with Dr. Hodges, the curator and owner. A cool collection of items and very special as every item has a story! Would recommend!
Really cool exhibits. Spans many cultures and time periods. $6 admission is well worth it. Teaser of the shrunken head.
Dr. Hodges was so nice today, and he shared very interesting information about the exhibits. I was impressed and surprised by the span of history displayed, even from Egyptian times. Since our visit was during Christmas time, each of the miracles of Jesus were also on display today (using hand-carved figures).
Dr. Hodges and Robin are fantastic people. They will give you a personal tour or you can walk through on your own. It has very fascinating exhibits and displays. The giant pharmacy from the early 1900's is awesome.
