Sand Hills Campground

Very helpful camp hosts. Bent over backward to help us.

The camphost doesn't always keep the bathrooms clean, especially on a holiday weekend.

Everything you'd want in a campground except shade. Clean, flat, good restroom facilities and a nice lake (pond). I got there a little before sunset and left around sunrise so shade wasn't an issue for me but it would have been if I was there more during the day. I think I was the only tent though so shade wouldn't be an issue for RVs either.

We love this place. Our first time here and we will come here again for sure. Clean and well kept. Kids went fishing 🎣 and walked trails. Stunning little place.

We stayed here a couple of nights in early June (2019) then stayed one night in mid June when we passed through again. (We were there again in 2020.) If the hosts are off duty, self check-in is done. Because I had not been there before, self check-in was a little confusing the first time. Probably because we had no reservation and the self check-in form was only for one night. We used it and paid for two nights. There were no problems, but with the host not there to check us in we risked that someone could have reserved our site for the second night. That didn't happen. We stayed at one of the sites with a large concrete pad. Our concrete pad was level. All sites with a concrete pad also had a concrete patio area with a BBQ grill, table and fire ring. With our 28 foot trailer on the pad, there was plenty of room for our crew cab pickup truck to sit in front of the trailer. The concrete sites would get a 10 rating. The gravel sites probably a 9 rating only because the camp host has no help and is also doing maintenance the best he can. (It's a big place for one person) There were a few weeds. The ground is mostly sand (it is sand hills), so don’t expect to see a plush green grass lawn at this location. It probably cannot happen. There is a small lake. It is new and we did not fish in it. Oh, if you have horses there are special sites for you. Overall, we were very pleased. Setup can't get easier than it was on the concrete pad.
We stopped here again on 6/17/2019 and the campground hosts were present. They were very pleasant. If you want to camp near Hutchinson, this is the place to do it.
