Lextran drivers and maintenance staff: HEROS, all. They get everyone were they need to go, even during the pandemic. That includes Hospital staff, grocery store workers, and Frontline personnel. They transported people to grocery stores and hospital visits. So that they could get much-needed supplies and medical attention. All of this, and they received no Hazard pay. Hats off to them all.
A very big THANK YOU to Lextran and the team that helped us accomplish the (nearly) impossible! I work at a 204-unit apartment complex for the elderly and disabled called Briarwood, and last week at 9:00 AM our power went out over the whole property. That day was set to be the hottest of the year at 105 heat index, and we were hoping like mad that the power would be restored quickly, but the KU website wasn't encouraging (it didn't actually come back on until after 5:00) . It was decided that we would try to get our residents out of their apartments and into the A/C, so we started making phone calls to get transportation. Our Service Coordinator was able to get in touch with someone at Lextran, who arranged a bus to come to our property within an hour to take anyone interested to see a movie and then return to bring them home afterward. Not only did they send a bus and driver, they sent a very kind man to watch over the group, many of whom were in walkers or wheelchairs. They did all of this in the baking heat, with smiles on their faces.
Not only that, but our residents depend heavily on the Lextran bus system, and their Wheels program to maintain self-sufficiency and interaction with the community.

Lextran offers extended service on Route 21 - Airport/Keeneland for the duration of the Fall and Spring Meets departing from the Downtown Transit Center. Avoid the hassle of parking at Keeneland and get dropped off near the grandstand area. Fare is $1 per adult passenger, each direction.
