Not a lot of animals up for adoption but it's not their fault.
I have not adopted any animals from this facility, but I spoke with a very kind gentleman over the phone. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, and informed me about protocols due to covid-19. Thank you for going above and beyond! People at other shelters are often not friendly and rush you off the phone.
Flora Shropshire Animal Shelter, Cynthiana, KY is a government operated facility that must take in any animal that comes to its door, it therefore is not a “No Kill” facility, few government operated shelters are; most have to euthanize due to open admission policy which takes in all unwanted pets and thus decreases the amount of shelter space. This shelter does very well in offering a foster program. Fostering frees up cage space for animals at the shelter by putting them in temporary homes. This shelter would benefit from increased funding to offer low cost spay and neuter and humane euthanasia for members of the community and creation of a Trap Neuter Return program for feral cats which would lower the number of cats being caught and thus increase the release rate.
I volunteer a couple days a week at the shelter. Work with both dogs and cats. Love those animals!
I adopted Rocky today. A male cat who had been at the shelter 183 days. He is so comfortable in my home with the 2 medium size dogs and working it out with the other 2 older male cats. He decided the dog bed was most comfortable vs Martha Stewart's fancy cat bed. We have renamed him Samson and it suits this big guy to the tee. Thank you for the adoption
