I love the Highlands Kroger. It's really stocked for the culture of the neighborhood. It is always clean and the staff is very friendly. There is a wide array of very healthy and organic foods. The parking has really improved.
I like to go shopping for groceries at the Highlands Kroger around 11pm because the aisles are empty of customers and the night stock staff are super quirky and helpful and F’n friendly. I found out that they do inventory on the plants outside on Monday during the day shift, so if you go in on a Monday night the plants are newly marked down and organized and super cheap! Who doesn’t like a sale on tomato plants and basil plants to put outside on the deck or dig a hole in the yard, throw a plant in there with some water and and see what happens. There is this awesome woman who works there. I gotta find out her name. I’ve talked to her every time I’ve been in there because fab. She wears a doo rag and I can tell that she’s rocking some substantial braids under there so props to her on her ‘I’m going to work and this is my look’ stylishness. She told me that the Highlands Kroger is a freak show and all kinds of freaky people walk in from the street. She told me about a woman who was talking to an imaginary invisible person and we both marveled at the oddity of that but it takes all kinds right? We always have a laugh. The next time that I came in I walked up to her and I pointed to thin air in front of me and I said “who is that lady right there” she was all “whaaaaat?” Her big eyes got bigger and she rotated her neck preparing to side eye at me. Then I started laughing and of course she recognized me and she belly laughed and said Yknow that’s funny but let me tell you what happened earlier tonight. A couple had come in and they both went into the restroom together and an elderly woman of the “have a bless-ed day” sect had noticed them go in together and came and got her and asked for security or at least a manager because she HAD to find out what they were doing in there. She wasn’t waiting to go into use the restroom she had seen them go in and she just wanted to know. Her response to nosy church lady was “You never know what people are dealing with, Ma’am, Please, Mind your own business, I am sure that they are okay in there - One of them could be diabetic or whatever “. Brilliant. They have a lot of weird great gourmet items that are on sale that I usually wouldn’t buy like chia seeds but when a big bag is on sale for $1.99 Okay. Sure. Why not. Seems like they expanded their fancy foods to compete with Whole Foods maybe? That jar of Sunflower nut butter is bound to go on sale soon and when it does it will be mine. The deli is faaaat. They offer a wide variety of every kind of olives and 4 different feta cheeses for under 4 bucks. I like to play the search and find game for the sale items. It really is the best late night entertainment that won’t end you up in trouble available anywhere nearby. Skip the filthy Kroger on Brownsboro and the Whole Foods is great to go look at things for ideas but come here late night and say hello to the late night staff. They will smile and say hello back and might ask “So what’s your deal? I like those shoes” Late Night Grocery shopping at the Highlands Kroger is most definitely the KING OF THE WORLD ?!!!!
Typical Kroger grocery store. Has all the groceries you need, 24 hours. Cupcakes; Organic Food; Cheese; Bread; Milk. You name it. Large variety. $5 Sushi every Wednesday.
This is one of my favorite Kroger stores, has a decent deli selection even after the deli closes, the employees are some of the friendlier people you'll meet anywhere and always anxious to help when you need it.
