Salvo's Seafood

Not a big seafood person outside of fish, but two of the guys I’m traveling with are and they said that this out of the way (and I don’t mean this is a negative way), ”simple” diner restaurant serves much better seafood than a much more expensive and “high class” restaurant in downtown New Orleans which we ate at two nights ago. And my non-seafood roast beef and gravy over a bun was exponentially much tastier and less expensive than the “market priced” fried salmon I had at that other restaurant.

The restaurant is dated, but very clean. Staff is quick and helpful. My food was great! Shrimp and corn chowder and hushpuppies. This is a great spot for a good lunch. The picture is their boudin balls- spicy sausage with rice battered and deep fried.

The catfish here was phenomenal- honestly fine dining quality.

Bread pudding also, mind blowing.

Best alligator, frog legs I’ve ever had as well.

First tourist visit to New Orleans and dined at Salvos. Granddaughter had worked here 15 years ago so had to stop. Had clam po boy and alligator po boy with sweet potato fries for her and shrimp potato salad for me. The sandwiches were unbelievable as well as the fries, the potato salad was disappointing there were only 2 tiny pieces of shrimp and the salad was blah. The atmosphere was neighborhood fun and the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely stop you won't regret it. They're menu features fresh seafood and good variety of sides and beverages. I highly recommend the alligator and sweet potato fries as well as crawdad.

All you can eat boiled seafood contains: snow crabs, corn, potato, mushroom, Jonas crabs,, crawfish . I had food the first time shrimp potato salad very good. The fried catfish was fresh. There is only beer, wine and premixed alcohol beverage, it was not very strong, The Tako Toddy I was told it would sneak up on me🤪. I was flattered that she asked for my ID🤭. The server Hanna, was great, she kept our drinks and the all seafood replenished!
