Great place to hike it's a very long hike but it's worth it.

We enjoyed the walk through this forest. Thankfully, someone cleared the path of hurricane damage. Easy walk that we and our golden retriever enjoyed.

A hidden gem just 15 minutes from New Orleans proper. Pro tip, if you get to the SPCA you've gone too far. Posting a pic of the entrance sign, it is faded and easy to miss, so hope this helps. It's just before the Belle Chasse grade school, ALL the way down the long narrow gravel path. Bring your bug spray, or better yet, wear lightweight long layers to defend your precious blood from the mosquitoes. There's also a little sink AND sprayer at the entrance, which is awesome if you need to hose off your dog, bike, kids, etc. Awesome trail, if you're running it, watch the cypress knees!

Really great park not far from the city. Totally worth a short day trip. You could spend an hour or several hours here if you walk the whole trail by the canal and back via the bunkers. Definitely check the recent weather. I've been here after some rain in the summer and you'd need rubber boots. This last visit everything was dry and fairly easy to navigate. It looks like they have or will have updated bathroom facilities soon.
