I took the combined guided tours of both the St. Joseph and the Felicity Plantation. A lot of work has obviously been invested in the main houses and grounds. They are beautiful and well-worth visiting. My guide was a fount of information and was very flexible in stopping and responding to my many questions. My only suggestion would be to please consider including more information and personal stories about the enslaved people who toiled on these plantations.
My husband and I visited both St. Joseph Plantation and Felicity Plantation on a Monday afternoon, prior to our flight home to Wisconsin. We have previously visited almost every other River Road plantation in the New Orleans area on past trips, and this tour was out favorite to date. The tour guides were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The tours were well researched and the tour guides were able to share details and stories from interviews done with family members who had either lived in the home or experienced it when visiting their family who lived there. The grounds and slave cabins are in the process of being repaired from recent hurricane and tornado damage but we're still able to viewed from outside. I would highly recommend this plantation tour to anyone looking for an informative look at incredibly beautiful homes on a working sugar cane plantation.
St Joseph’s Tour offers two tours, you can choose to do one, or both St Joseph’s and Felicity Plantation. You’ll see both in my pictures. I really enjoyed the tour. You take your time and go through each room. You can ask questions. You’re not rushed. Affordable prices. The tour guides are both very knowledgeable.
It's a nice smaller-scale (compared to, say, Oak Alley, which is right next door) plantation offering guided tours at an affordable rate.
There is a strong focus here on accurate historical reconstitution compared to other locations, which is a huge plus.
THIS IS A TREASURE! I was sad to see people get roped into the Hype for the plantation next door. We had a lovely tour of the entire property by a local woman who had a family relation ship to the original family. The tour wasn't rushed, or timed, it was a local woman showing some visitors around the property as a friend would do( as many local people do) This property has remained in the same family for seven generations. The property compares in every way aesthetically to the over crowded bus ridden property next door.
