S & H Good Eats Cafe

What an amazing place! The food was awesome. This has to be some of the best home cooked food from a restaurant I have ever had in my life. I travel often and I have been to almost every state in the union and hands down this is some of the best food in America. If you are ever in the area this has to be on your to-do list.

This is a small hometown Cafe that offers a large breakfast for very low prices. As a frequent traveler, I regularly look for gems like this place; and I am so happy that I found this one!
One of the reviews that I read said "To Drive For" and there isn't a more accurate phrase to describe this small Cafe with huge flavor! If you are within an hour drive of this Cafe, this is a MUST visit for any foodie or someone looking for a great breakfast!

This place didn’t look like much on the outside but was the only place in town we saw with a wait line. The service was a little slow but the waitress was friendly and attentive. The menu had a lot of variety and the food was great home-cooked style.

If you judge this place from the outside, you will miss a great meal. We had breakfast here on the 1st day of our vacation. Our waitress was wonderful. The food was outstanding. I had the small portion of the breakfast burrito with green chili. The small was even more than I could eat. It came with Grits and a very tall biscuit. My husband had the Mess with green chili. He loved it and it was a huge portion. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. You should give it a try if ever in Slidell.

What I got: 1 French toast, 1 smoked sausage, and a cup of oatmeal with no raisins or brown sugar. Note, I added honey to my French toast and Oatmeal which is what the photos show.

The oatmeal was very well made, not super watery, not super dry either. The French toast reminded me something I had as a child. I wish they could use bigger bread like brioche bread so that I could have had more of it! The sausage I got was I think smoked sausage and had a kick to it (not bad though) but my friend got the alligator sausage and it could have been that for all I know; they weren’t labeled but both were good.

They have some outdoor seating and the inside was small but packed when I went to pick up my food. The place is very “mom-and-pop” so their facilities aren’t the most updated. It was a bit dark in the restaurant as well (went there around 11:30am).

The workers were very kind when placing the order on the phone and even sweeter when I got there.

Improvement opportunities: labeling the to-go food would be very helpful for customers that make multiple orders.
