I drive my kids and their cousins to forest school 2 days a week and the kids are delighted on the way there and exhausted on the way home. Teece and her team of guides are some of my children's favorite people. They keep their attention focus on those things most important to the development of young children and we love them for it.
My daughter attended the year long program here. The lessons learned and bonds formed are amazing. Teece and her staff run this program beautifully and teach kids valuable life lessons such as how to treat others and nature.
Beautiful school filled with very knowledgeable and hard working staff. My daughter spent the year improving her vocabulary, physical abilities, independence, social skills, teamwork, problem solving, love for the outdoors, and more. She thrived with the routine, the staff, and the “classroom”; I see what she’s learned constantly seeping into her everyday life. I’m so grateful to have found such a unique (for our area) and wonderful place for my toddler to grow.
My son loves this camp and for good reason. River's Edge immerses your kid in nature by allowing them to create, explore and make friends all in a beautiful wooded setting. Friendly, competent staff as well. He'd go every week if we didn't live so far away.
My wife and I consider ourselves exceptionally fortunate that we found River's Edge and made the call to enroll our son in the FORESTplay program. The environment that Teece and her staff create there is nothing short of incredible. Our son attended from age 3-4. He was already a wonderful child prior to starting, but the positive growth that he experienced in his confidence, emotional regulation, problem solving, courage, and interpersonal skills was staggering. Forest Play was a source of joy for our son--he was always excited to go to school (and bummed on the rare occasions he couldn't go) and came home happily exhausted & appropriately dirty.
Most impressive is the River's Edge team. I can think of no better group of child development professionals than the one that Teece has assembled to do the job at River's Edge. I simply cannot say enough about how wonderful they are. Indicative of this was our experience at "graduation." Rather than following the trope of a mini-scale commencement replete with "Pomp and Circumstance," Teece and her team eschewed diplomas for amazing feedback collages for each child with personalized narratives highlighting their growth and development journeys. It was patently obvious we entrusted our son to people that genuinely cared about him (and all the other children in the program). Through our son's stories about Mr. Will, Ms. Alli, Ms. Teece, and "the other ones" (as well as our own observations), we saw that they place the utmost care into their roles. Everything from drop-off to play to pick-up is executed with the perfect balance of adaptability and structure.
The program's emphasis on bounded freedom, exploration, and being outside was something that we knew, academically, would support our child's well-rounded development. However, the quality of the River's Edge program in execution was simply astounding. The physical environment is curated to foster imagination and engaged learning about self and the world surrounding our little ones. On the (too) few times that we had the privilege to attend events with our child at River's Edge, we shared in our son's joy watching him play, interact, and confidently show off to us everything he loved about Forest Play. It is no exaggeration that I was literally choked up a bit watching my son move with such happy independence in the woods.
Though we are leaving MD, we very much regret that our younger children will not have the opportunity to experience the incredible nurturing environment at River's Edge. We were so happy with the program that, prior to our departure, we enrolled our son in as much summer camp at River's Edge as we could. I can say with confidence that every penny that paid in tuition to River's Edge--and the effort driving to drop-off and pick-up--was an investment with a massive return in terms of growth and foundational development for our child. This place deserves many more stars than the rating system allows.
