Clean bathrooms, and very friendly staff who were patient and helpful with guiding visitors to a trail or outlook that fit their abilities and interests. I would highly recommend stopping in for maps and friendly advice!
Cunningham Falls and Trail:
Very good view. Nice natural trail. Enjoyable scenery. Moderate difficulty. No hard climbs.
Yellow Blaze Trail:
Tiring and worthless. Too long, rocky and hilly. The hog rock and blue ridge vista view points were not too good for the trek. They have very small views in between trees. The trail is good if you want to just trek and not for the scenic views.
Amazing staff and rangers. They were able to answer any questions we had containing the trails and about the park. Bathrooms were clean and well-kept. There’s a play area for children to learn and explore more about the park. My child enjoyed that room a lot. There’s also a little museum exhibit inside explaining some of the history. It does get super busy and the parking fills up pretty quick especially on weekends and holidays.
This is a great place to hike even when it appears to be not a great day due to the weather. The mountains were quiet today and the trails were not as busy. With the fog, chimney rock and wolf rock vistas did not afford much of a view but with the sun trying to push through the fog there were still amazing views.
Very interesting mountain history museum exhibit. The small bookshop has great items for nature lovers of all ages. The discovery room has exploratory activities that use all senses. The displays are really well thought out and encourage observations, learning, and discussion. It's not a huge room, but it offers an incredible amount of activity. I'm a naturalist at another Maryland park and I was so impressed. Park staff was so friendly and helpful. Bathroom facilities on and off trail were super clean. Trails were a fantastic challenge and views were an amazing reward! Go explore!
