I had my first baby with MAMAS in December 2019. MAMAS is cream of the crop midwifery care - skilled C.N.M.s who are also kind, patient, and engaged. I felt supported and empowered by them every step of the way - even when we had to transfer to the NICU after my baby was born (for a reason unrelated to the homebirth).
I never thought I would be one to do a homebirth. We came to inquire about a home birth because of the pandemic, we were so worried about the prevalence of COVID-19 in hospitals that we felt staying out of them was the most sensible choice under the circumstances. However after our experience with M.A.M.A.S., the way we were cared for and supported through the process, I wouldn't choose to go through any other system by choice.
Mairi, Emily, and Kathy were with us as a family, including for my husband, throughout the entire process. We were pretty nervous given my advanced gestational age (40), and this combined with the fact that my mum couldn't be there for the birth made it the idea of being pregnant quite stressful. Having Mairi and the team look after us made it feel less lonely that my mum wasn't here, and we were incredibly well supported.
Mairi and Emily were here from the beginings of my labour right through until the end, they helped us look after the baby and look after ourselves in the aftermath of the birth. They helped control the intensity of the labour, and helped me get through the process calmly and with all of our birth plan needs met. They even kindly took some photos during and afterward, which we keep precious, cleaned up after the birth, and made us breakfast - which I especially needed.
Throughout the pregnancy, they worked with a professional radiologist and sonographer team to monitor the baby's health and my fluid levels, they helped manage medications and monitor my metabolism and nutrition, they also helped sanity check the over-medicalization inherent in the US healthcare system.
If you are thinking of becoming pregnant, or already are and would like to try a home birth, I urge you to talk to M.A.M.A.S., it was such a fantastic experience. I would use them again.
MAMAS (Mairi) is the dream for an expecting couple. Safety is the most important priority. Community visit are so wonderful to connect and support other women, while getting great advice like sleep and nutrition. They were always encouraging of us to call in the middle of the night, even if we were just feeling uncertain of what to do. Great parenting advice too! You really can't go wrong with MAMAS. What a bargain too!
MAMAS Midwives gave my family the greatest gift by allowing me, based on an evidence-based model of care, to bring my daughter into the world in a safe, comfortable, familiar environment and made be feel supported, encouraged, and empowered throughout the entire process . My birth was a dream and MAMAS is truly a gem. We will always be grateful.
MAMAS midwives are the absolute best. So grateful that we chose them for our prenatal care and that they were with us for our home birth. For my 24 hour labor, they were there the entire time, guiding me when I needed guidance and giving me space when I wanted to figure things out on my own. They helped me listen to my body and be present for the entire experience. Couldn’t have asked for a better birthing team.
