My favorite hiking trails and cross country skiing in New England
This preserve has a dog friendly part of the lake, with a beach. It is small, but very nice to have for dog owners looking to find a spot to bring their pets and family to during the summer and throughout the year. We have been here twice, and it is always a fun experience. The dog friendly beach is the one that is on the left trail right after the parking lot where the trail begins, after the entrance. There are no signs to it, really, so it took us some time when we first visited to find it. Do keep in mind the beach for the lake, etc., is not closed off, so you will have to keep an eye on yiur dog to make sure he/she doesnt run off...it would be difficult to find them in the wooded area. We do love it here, and we will most certainly come back again.
This is the best hiking area in Westford. There are miles of trails around a lake. The primary entrance is at the railroad crossing, there is a parking lot there as well as a couple inside the park. It can also be accessed from the rail trail that runs next to the Stonybrook school.
This conservation area is also home to two summer camps. Two of the main trails are actually rough roads to the camps. This part is easy walking. The other trails in the area are typical walking/hiking trails. There is a nice looped trail that passes by both camps and travels around Bruges Pond. In total it covered a little over 2 miles.
On the day I was there I saw families with their bikes and people walking their dogs. I thoroughly enjoyed the area.
Visited this place during different seasons and each one presents its own beauty. Amazing place for a walk during warm months and the perfect place for snowshoeing during the winter. We also attended to group outings/activities and had a lot of fun. One of the few State Parks you can let your dog off leash. We’re still exploring the different trails. Amazing nature time!
