Problem: Pinched lumbar nerve root (lumbar radiculopathy) causing insane pain and preventing sleep. I was a mess and was strongly considering surgery.

Result: Jim Achatz successfully treated the pinched nerve pain over a course of 5 weeks. He asked me to be patient and stick with the exercise regimen as a pinched nerve root can take 6-12 weeks to heal.

Method: The most productive exercises taught were as follows and provided immense relief: 1: Lying Face Down in Extension, 2. Slide Glide Against the Wall, 3. Extension in Standing

Unexpected Results: It also had the benefit of treating my spondylolisthesis (the displacement of one spinal vertebra compared to another) of the lumbar region (L4-L5). The spondylolisthesis meant that any activities requiring bending (e.g., making the bed) caused significant pain within a minute. Sleeping was a problem as I would wake to pain and needed to shift position. Now I sleep well and can make the bed pain free. Not perfect, but a massive improvement in almost eliminating back pain. Eliminated sciatica pain.

What sets Munger apart from other PT’s: No cookie cutter approach. Works each visit to reach a tailored set of exercises to treat your specific injury. He had me try several body positions, standing sitting lying on my back, lying on my stomach, standing leaning against the wall before starting treatment that completely eliminated my pain.

Personnel: Jim Achatz is a very engaging person. Super knowledgeable of techniques and anatomy.

All of the staff are both helpful and friendly! I had an issue with my thumb; Jim isolated and fixed the issue in just a few minutes. He explained my injury in very easy to understand terms so I knew what was fixed. I would highly recommend Munger to anyone! 🙂
