Shepherd's Gate Church

Shepherd’s Gate became our church home this year after we’d visited and participated in its programming for over a decade. The congregation there is unlike any other I’ve encountered: warm, inviting, open, friendly, encouraging, and Christlike in the ways they prioritize commitment to the Word and community. Shepherd’s Gate Step-Out-And-Serve events take place annually for the entire church to actively serve on projects teams all over southeast Detroit. In terms of weekly sermons and teaching, sermons are preached in an expository style, line for line from scripture; explaining context and relevance for that verse in biblical times, whilst providing guidance around that teaching for modern day.

Shepherd's Gate is a place to hear the truth of God's Word spoken in the sermons, a place to grow in your faith, and to be part of a community where you can participate in sharing the love of Jesus with others!

The worship is vibrant, and the community's commitment to living out Jesus' love is evident in their outreach and care groups. Home away from home! My boyfriend and I grew up in the church and found our way back and tried 11 churches at the beginning of 2025. Shepard’s Gate was the only choice for us and stuck out the most. We love it here. I do volunteer as well on the photography team and it’s an amazing community. Highly recommend!!

Shepherd’s Gate Church has been such a blessing to our family. It’s a place where people are friendly, genuine, and passionate about their faith. What I love most is the strong commitment to teaching the Bible—verse by verse. It’s refreshing and encouraging to dig deeply into Scripture each week and really understand God’s Word in context. The teaching is solid, truth-filled, and always points back to Jesus. I’m so thankful to be part of a church that not only teaches the Bible faithfully but also lives it out in community. Every week I leave encouraged, challenged, and more grounded in God’s Word. It’s a joy to be part of such a welcoming, Bible-centered church family!
