Mark was absolutely incredible to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable, and honestly loved even just sharing his process of how he mixes with me. I myself am a super amateur when it comes to recording and mixing, and yet he was still so helpful and would answer any questions I had regarding this process. He's a very genuine guy, and is truly passionate about music.
In the 1 song we recorded at his studio, he would hear ideas and share them with our band to see if we liked them. He goes above and beyond to make sure that your project is the best possible thing it can be.
The place was exceptionally clean and well kept. There was a TON of gear options available at disposal to capture the greatest sound possible.
I would highly recommend this studio to any music creator. We are for sure coming back!!!
Great facility and excellent equipment, but Raydon's real strength is Mark who can truly do it all. He's an ace at the computer, can fine tune vocals without them sounding "tuned" at all, has a great ear for getting the best take and knows his music theory cold, so he can tell you exactly what note in a vocal or bass part isn't working and suggest an alternative. Or if you're struggling with a bass part (not my first instrument), he can just pick a bass up and record it himself. Truly helpful. Plus, and this is where the biggest advantage is, Mark has great taste. With all the modern studio wizardry at the touch of a hand, he knows when less is more.
My band Possum Belly recorded our first single “Name Your Price” at Raydon and let me tell you, it was the best studio experience any of us have had in our 20+ years of playing and recording music. Mark is an absolute pro, he’s a genius behind the board, and he is remarkably patient and good at customer service. We had a super fun time in the studio—plenty of laughs and good times but most importantly Mark was able to get truly great performances out of each band member, like a producer should. And of course the MOST important thing—the final product. Just listen to any of the samples on Raydon’s website and you’ll see they speak for themselves. The rates here are stupid good too. Book here now while it’s still a bit of a hidden gem.
We have recorded with Raydon three times now and every experience has been better than the last. Each and every time we walk away with a record that we are excited about and proud of. This is a damn fine studio that deserves far more what it charges for their work.
If you consider yourself to be an artist, go somewhere that treats you as one. Working alongside Mark has taught me so much as a musician. It has pushed me as an artist, inspired me as a songwriter, and time after time when I record with Raydon, I leave with an album that I am damn proud of.
Raydon is unique in the way they do their pricing. Rather than charging an hourly rate like most studios, Raydon offers hourly rates as well as the option to pay one flat rate per song, giving you the option to spend additional time writing and exploring ideas. This is invaluable because it allows you to explore every single "what if we tried this" scenario. Whether it is rewriting a bridge, slaving away at finding that perfect guitar tone, or just taking your time to get the perfect take, with Raydon you are never penalized financially for striving for perfection.
In addition to being a recording savant, Mark also is an amazing musician, with a brilliant ear for tones, delivery, and song structure. Working with Raydon will help bring your project to life and leave you walking away confident in your work.
Since moving from their small studio in West Bloomfield to their new location in Keego Harbor, the studio has grown, not only in size and technology, but in capability as well. The larger space lends itself extremely well to live recordings. The live room is spacious and sounds perfect when recording drums and loud amps. The new vocal booth provides a comfortable environment and perfect acoustic treatment for any type of vocal range or delivery. The mixing room has a couch and multiple chairs and can comfortably fit a good number of people to listen to mixes and discuss how the project is coming along.
There are various writing rooms available to the artist as well. You can take a guitar in and write, or just relax and take a break from recording for a while. Multiple bathrooms and a kitchen make the space easy to spend a lot of time in during the long recording process. Easy parking and load-in area make recording during multiple sessions a breeze. There are also a really nice number of diners, bars and fast food places all within walking distance so you can stay fed and energized regardless of your budget.
Lastly, Raydon has a large selection of instruments, and a wide array of effects boxes, as well as amps, drum kits, and microphones. Anything you could ever need is available to you during the recording process. In my experience, any effect or tone that was not available physically, Mark was able to recreate digitally. His supply of digital effects is as infinite as his knowledge of how to use them is.
Whether you are recording a one off single, a full length album or anything in between, you cannot go wrong with this studio. In all my years of performing and recording I have never come across a producer or studio with more knowledge, patience, and genuine passion for what they do than what I have found in Raydon. My only regret in leaving a 5 star review is that this diamond in the dirt studio will get more business and I will not be able to keep this secret to myself any longer.
