My Mother has been a resident for the last few years. The owners have provided a welcoming home. The care is much more individualized than larger facilities which is very much appreciated! Glad we found Barrett Regency!
I highly recommend Barrett Regency for anyone looking for an assisted living residential home. Barrett Regency provides individual care for each of its residents. Staff is caring, treat residents as their own family, and staff is held to a very high standard of care by owners; Sheila, RN and husband, Tom. In addition, Sheila and Tom are very involved in the day-to-day care of their residents. They both work at the home with residents weekly, supporting each resident’s plan of care. Sheila and Tom make sure residents are receiving proper medications and even take on a more holistic approach that more is not always better. Proper nutrition for each resident is highly supported, all meals are homemade, and each resident’s needs are taken into consideration. The home is always clean and well maintained. I always felt confident that my Dad was in good hands and well cared for. If you are looking for a caring, loving, and supportive environment for your loved one, I highly recommend Barrett Regency.
Hello, my name is Siggy.
I'm hoping this review gives someone out there help in making some of the tough decisions of finding a safe place for your parent or loved one when choosing a "home".. It can be daunting ! Who can you trust???
*MY STORY: My soon to be 92 year old mother has been in Assisted living memory care since May 2015 with moderate/severe dementia.
Since June 2019 she has lived at the Barrett Regency foster care for which I am making this review for.
The previous place Mom lived at before the Barrett Regency was a large luxurious and expensive care facility. (I won't name names but I'm sure you have toured some like it).. As my mother became a fall risk and fell more times than I like to remember. It was Time to move.....
*POLICY, POLICY: Her last two falls required hip surgery that almost killed her.. The Corporate legal stance was not to use any Restraints in there facility as long as the resident was ambulatory. (Written by a lawyer, I'm sure.) This policy ended badly for my mother when she slid out of bed twice at night. In my opinion a blanket policy such as that is not suited for every residents need..
* A SAVING GRACE: Came across this home from listening to a nurse in a local Beaumont hospital when my mother was in stable condition and was ready to be released to rehabilitation . Believe me I am new to this so making a change like this you get very nervous. .Its not like moving to a new apartment or changing car insurance.
I was praying for something better for Mom and I believe my prayers were answered.. This home north of Rochester is a residential home semi converted to house 6 residents. The 1# biggest factor to have my mother moved here was the policy of using bedrails and wheelchair harness seatbelts as a preventive fall measure.
With someone on hand 24/7 makes for a 6/1 ratio in care.. The larger Corporate facility cannot come close to that kind of care ratio!.
*THE OWNER: The Owner, Manager and RN , Sheila Leadbetter can be contacted directly about your important questions, unlike dealing with Corporate Directors, Assisting directors, front desk screening employees or try make appointments to see the Nurse .(been there, done that exercise)
*GOALS: Sheila's methods for hiring are stringent for CNA's.. Good help is hard to find in any of the foster homes or Assisted living and this one is no exception, However, Sheila does a good job of finding the very best out there and not afraid to make those changes.. Can't say that about the larger Corporate board run facility.
*MY WISHES: If your family member is becoming a fall risk and your current facility has A- NO Restraint policy or you just have that feeling in the pit of your stomach that something bad is about to happen then I would highly recommend making the change SOON or at the very least take a tour of this home and compare for yourself.
Hopefully you can navigate around the pitfalls that I made in the past from trial and error and get that good night sleep that you were prevented from getting.
Sincerely,
and may God bless you and your family.
Siggy
My mom was a resident at Barrett House for several years. She received outstanding care throughout her entire stay. She was treated with respect and dignity by both the owners and the support staff. I will be forever indebted to all of her caregivers for providing her the best possible care during very difficult times.
