My daughter wanted to take cello lessons for a long time, and I had heard about Bloomfield Suzuki. I am so happy that we chose this program! Matt is such a gifted performer, but there are many musicians in the world. What makes him special is his ability to connect with each child. As the mother of twins, each has a different temperament. One of my girls is very conscientious and would do well with any teacher. However, Matt was able to inspire my other daughter to look forward to her lessons. I will admit that even though she was excited to start private lessons, she gradually grew lazy about doing the work and would often forget her lesson book. Matt was able to connect with her, understand her concerns, and adapt the lessons so that she was excited about learning! He turned a reluctant child into a musician who now fills our house with music! Now, she is begging for more lesson time! I am so honored to be supporting this program and so happy that Matt and Bloomfield Suzuki have been such a positive influence in our lives.
Matt is a phenomenal teacher, not only for music but for his methodology of helping students excel in understanding steps for how to approach any type of project. He has a unique ability to break down process for a child so that they can have fun learning something that is very challenging. I appreciate his patience in teaching, and have seen him bring out the best in his students not only in performing, but also building confidence in general as well as public speaking. My daughter has been attending for at least 3 years.
We just recently started our journey with cello and Matt has been a great coach and a mentor. I love the way he controls the amount of input he gives for my young cellist son, who just turned 9. His teaching method is systematic and positive. Looking forward to another year cultivating progress and love in string music with him!
Matthew is a great teacher! He is very patient and motivating. He creates achievable goals which help me to see the progress I made over the past months. His teaching approach ensures that I develop all skills and not only focus on one of them (intonation, rhythm, positions etc.). I also learn a lot about my Cello as an instrument in regards to what strings to use, new bows etc. as well as music theory. The recitals every 6 months are also helpful to practice playing in front of other people and not only for yourself.
I highly recommend Matthew as a teacher.
I started working with Matt as a 30 year old student with no experience on the violin. Matt was able to tailor the lessons to me remarkably well and was very patient and extremely supportive of my progress. I looked forward to every lesson because he was very personable and never made me feel pressured to be perfect for every lesson. I would recommend him to anyone (young or old) who was thinking of picking up the violin or cello.
