A year ago I moved back to MI after living out of state for many years. In my teens I had attended MDCC & was completely transformed by coming to know a real & true relationship with Christ, it had literally saved my life. In moving back last year due to unforeseen circumstances & as a single Mom, I was hesitant to attend. I had however enrolled my oldest son in Christ the King Homeschool, & in getting to know other Moms in CTK, I saw a unique confidence these women all had that I knew I wanted too. There was also a covering I experienced, that with all I had just gone through in my life, absolutely needed. I began attending MDCC later in the fall of 2019 & even from that first service I knew God’s presence was here. I knew this is exactly where He placed me. Fast forward to almost a year later & I barely recognize my life. My boys, ages 1 1/2 & 4 and myself both have a great group of friends, and an incredible support of people around us. I’ve grown by leaps & bounds which is only a testament to the healing power of Jesus. I’ve been encountering God in a deep & true way, even reading my Bible has become alive to me in a way I hadn’t known before. I’m so thankful for a faithful God who led me back to MDCC, He knew exactly where I needed to be. I love the leadership at MDCC, the accountability & true growth we as the body of Christ are experiencing. This is home for me & for my boys.

I do not attend here any longer, but I did. I can't imagine investing the time and energy to write a negative review for a church, but here they are. Was it all bad? I was there, driving on M-14, late one afternoon, when I noticed the pastors of this church driving the opposite direction towards Ann Arbor. The next day I heard that a family in the church had lost a son. The pastors had dropped everything to rush to their side in order to love and serve them. I don’t remember that being publicly announced. It just happened. Here, members of that family are leaving negative reviews. Is that really helpful? That is ill advised at best. I simply believe that if correction is needed then someone with the authority to do so will take action without needing my attempt to apply shame in a public forum. When I was there, I had cancer. They prayed for me and even helped my family pay for a hotel room while I was taking radiation treatments. That was a very dark season in my life. They made time for me. The Pastor's late father gave my son a guitar, which my son still plays. This is a church of genuine and loving people. They are flawed, yes. Welcome to the human condition. Still, they see a way out of the human condition and pursue it with passion. The pastors genuinely love the people they serve. The people are sincere and good. I remember these people fondly. I would be shocked if they remember me at all. I am confident my comments, good or bad, mean little to them. Still, having seen the bashing done here, I felt a need to be distanced from it.

How can you review a church online? It's difficult because most people have their own opinion on what church should be, look like, and behave. Opinions and feelings don't really matter. I look carefully at the Scriptures, which are to guide the church, and the individuals in the church. Each person is called to a specific church by God Himself. We live in a society that allows free speech and so these individuals exercise their rights here.
As for me, when I was a teenager, I yearned for the church I saw demonstrated in the New Testament. I longed to see a group of like-minded believers reaching for maturity in Christ, in the Scriptures and in their personal lives as well. As an older adult, when I found this church I could not believe that I found preachers of the Word, who preach without bowing to societal and cultural ideals of what the church should look like and what it should do. I found preachers of the Word of God that have gone into the Scriptures and changed their lives so that my life could also change. I found leaders who laid open their lives and said "follow me as I follow Christ." And I have. I have found a dynamic group of believers growing and striving to be all that God has called them to be over a lifetime of growth and maturity. I found a place where the Spirit of God hovers. In a lifetime of looking and hoping and praying I found the place where God Himself called me. So, to that end, I give a five star rating to this church, but rating is really to God for calling me here, so I could land, settle and live out the days of my life in the best place on earth.
