I first started playing the viola when I was in fifth grade, now I'm still performing in college. I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have without the help and support I received from Mr. Ford. We mainly focused and learning to perform songs in Suzuki books. Every year, Mr. Ford's students perform these songs at a recital. These recitals really showed me how much I improved in a year. In addition to learning to perform songs from Suzuki pieces, we also practiced scales and other practices to learn techniques, and we practiced small pieces to better master these techniques. I highly recommend you go to Mr. Ford's studio to master the violin or viola, and I think Mr. Ford for helping me become the musician I am now.
David was my viola teacher for about 4 years. I began as an intermediate player, having picked up habits both good and bad. David is an expert in technique, performance, and forming good habits. He is also very patient, but will only be as dedicated as you are. He quickly identified my technical flaws and helped build a plan to fix them and improve my performance. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will be amazed how much he can help you improve!
We have been fortunate to have David Ford as our son's violin teacher since 2015, and we couldn't be more grateful for the impact he has had on our family. When our son first expressed his interest in learning the violin at a young age, we were hesitant about the journey that lay ahead. However, finding David, a Suzuki teacher in the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area, has been a genuine gift.
As the years have passed, David's patience, guidance, and kindness have continually impressed us. It's hard to believe it's been almost a decade since our son started his musical journey with David, and we are in awe of the progress he has made under David's tutelage. David has a special way of nurturing a love for music in his students, even through the challenging "I don't wanna practice" stage. Our son has transformed into a dedicated musician who genuinely enjoys practicing and growing on his own.
Even during the difficult times of the pandemic, David went above and beyond to ensure that our son's lessons continued seamlessly. His unwavering support and encouragement for both our son and us as parents truly made a difference. We are committed to continuing our son's musical education with David until graduation, as we wholeheartedly believe in his teaching philosophy and the positive impact he has had on our son's life.
We cannot recommend David Ford enough to any family seeking a talented, dedicated, and compassionate music teacher. Thank you, David, for everything you do for our son and for being a constant source of inspiration and guidance.
Dave has been my daughter’s violin teacher for almost 4 years now! I initially found out about his studio when I had his daughter in my preschool class. But, the reason we have stayed with his studio for so long and will continue to stay is because he is not only a very effective teacher, but he is also compassionate, caring, and handles challenges as if they weren’t really challenges at all. If you are looking for a top notch teacher for yourself or your child - whether your child intends to make a career from their music or just wants to learn for fun, I highly encourage you to try out David Ford’s studio.
Mr. Ford was my viola instructor for the majority of my high school experience. He helped me prepare for college auditions and made sure that I was up to scratch on the repertoire and canon. My lessons with Mr. Ford were always a learning experience, in everything there was a lesson to be learned, and I feel I improved significantly and became a better musician under his tutelage.
I highly recommend this studio for violinists/violists of all ages.
Thank you David!
