When I first came to downriver bjj I have to admit I was a little nervous as I had no clue what to expect. As soon as I walked through the door that immediately changed. Everybody was very friendly and introduced themselves right away and made me feel super comfortable. There was a special going on and I had only planned on trying it out for a couple of months. What they don't tell you is that it's addicting and will completely change your life in just about every meaningful way. Fast forward a couple of years and I'm still around training multiple times a week with my new family and best friends. This place is special, come change your life.

I have trained in the martial arts for over 20 years, in Asia, the United States Marine Corps , and in the US Army-- I can say without any reservation that this studio is the best place I have ever trained in my life.

I enthusiastically recommend downriver Jiu Jitsu for anyone- regardless if you are a new or veteran practitioner. The head instructor Brent Insco, combines a deep reservoir of knowledge/ experience with a very personable and laid back approach to teaching. His prior experience as a school teacher enables him to effectively teach both children and adults. My kids love his classes!! Brent is also extremely well rounded in several martial arts holding Black Belts in Jiu Jitsu as well as Karate.

This school is for you - regardless of your goals- be they self defense, fitness or competition- as Brent coached several world medalists.

We love it here! We have my son (5) and daughter (8) in their class and have been pleased with the program since day one of signing up, which was over a year ago now. The instructor (Brent) is very knowledgeable and very patient when teaching the kids class. My kids have not only gained knowledge and respect for Jiu-Jitsu, but also made a few friends. I can’t say enough about their program for kids and I highly recommend it.

Great place to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for kids and adults. My children have been a part of the kids class for almost 3 years under the direct instruction of Professor Brent Insco. He is the highest ranking black belt in the area with an extremely strong lineage close to the Ribiero and Gracie families. My boys have had a lot of fun and made great friendships along the way. I’ve even joined as an adult and can’t say enough about the academy. Friendly people and top notch instruction.

My kids and I have been under Brent’s tutelage for a handful of months now and we couldn’t be happier with our decision on this gym. The kids are not only learning a life skill but building quality relationships with the other kids in their class. Brent and the coaching staff are providing a quality environment for the kids to learn.

As for the the adult class what a great community Brent has built in his gym. The instruction is high level, and the bonus is the amount of higher belts Brent has as a supplemental resource to his training.
