TLDR: Phill is a great teacher with a good attitude and an awesome book. On my own I wasn’t able to improve but working with phill I’ve made more progress in few months than the last ten years.
I have played guitar since I was 15-16 I’m 39 you do the math. I seemed to hit a plateau after a few years and honestly I didn’t mind being a cowboy chord warrior. Fast forward about five years ago I started playing guitar for my son before he went to bed and that started me wanting to actually improve so I tried and didn’t get better lol.
Fast forward to last x mas and my wife got me guitar lessons with phill after she did some searching. a month later I found myself able to play under the bridge without a capo to say I was floored is an understatement.
Phill has said in his books and in person if only someone showed me this years ago and it rings true for me. I was looking at the tab for that song and I recognized the shapes. it wasn’t just numbers on lines and guessing what fingers need to be where. I saw it I knew it I played it….. terribly but with practice I got there lol
I’ve made more progress in my playing ability’s in the last 7-8 months than in the last 10 years and it’s a fact not an overblown I like the guy so I’m going to give him a great review ( I do he’s a super nice laid back guy) no this is just fact of the matter
If you’re new to guitar or a cowboy chord pro like me or hell if your Stevie ray von you’re gonna learn something from phill If not you’ll have a good session and a great conversation! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk if your still reading.
I have been taking lessons with Mr. Olson for a while now and he’s a great teacher. His expertise with different genres is very helpful when you are being taught by him. He is also always willing to help and introduce students to new forms of music in order to understand music theory better. I also particularly like his books because they offer a great amount of knowledge on music theory and guitar theory in general. Overall, great teacher!
Phil is an excellent guitar teach! His versatile teaching style always me to work on the things I enjoy and go at my own pace.
I've been taking lessons from Phil for 5 years now. I'm always in awe of his playing skill and deep music knowledge, but have never felt intimidated. It's easy to learn from him. Phil is so patient and stresses playing songs that interest you. Lessons are always fun which is what it's all about for me. I leave each one with some nugget that makes me a better player.
Phil is exceptionally knowledgeable about all things music. He has great tricks and tips for making playing fun and easy. Highly recommend for lessons no matter your age.
