I saw OWCC at the Hopkins Empty Bowls Benefit, sometime around 2008-2009. They were a coarse group of really good singers, having a lot of fun singing songs I had never heard before. Some friends who sang with them (and knew I enjoyed singing) recommended I join. I told them I didn't like the stress of rehearsals leading up to performances. They laughed and said, "we don't perform, we only 'appear' every once in a while. I also thought it strange they paid to sing together. Oh well . . . I jumped in to test the water and I'm still swimming with them; what a group!
The people in OWCC has grown and changed, the music has varied, but the camaraderie keeps getting stronger! Everyone brings something wonderful to this choir. I miss my friends when I can't sing with them.
So, if you're looking for a social club where you can sing for the pure enjoyment of singing (we only "appear" when begged to) we meet at St. Luke in Minnetonka, come check us out!
A group for people who love harmony and A Capella singing. The world music is taught largely by ear and contains thick harmonies and eclectic rhythms. The camaraderie and group spirit remind me of my youth harmonizing around a campfire at camp. Many of us have sung and performed in various choirs over the years but this is a place where we come and sing just for the sheer joy of singing.
I've been part of OWCC since 2008. It's very laid back, and everyone is warm, friendly, and caring. We don't perform; we just get together because we love to sing. There are no auditions, and you don't need to read music. Just come, join us and have fun.
Great music. Great people. Great fun. For me, it's the perfect place to sing.
OWCC is a non-performance choir; we meet for the love of singing and the enjoyment of each other. It's a highlight of my week to be with this welcoming community of folks who laugh as much as sing, Betsy is an energetic, creative choir director who integrates music from all over the world and often has us singing in Russian, Celtic, or a multitude of African languages.
