(November 23, 2019, 8:16 am)When I moved to Woodbury, my search for a new church home didn’t take long. On my first visit to Five Oaks, I sensed a warmth in the atmosphere—both in the physical surroundings as well as the people, music, and the message. Everything about it I felt I could relate to. I was looking for a church that was big enough to offer various fellowship opportunities, but not mega big. I so appreciate the worship music, which is beautiful, tender, and heartfelt. The instruments and worship team are at a perfect volume so that when we sing, I can hear the voices of those around me, and my own voice. That’s important to me in having a sense of worshipping together, rather than being overpowered by musicians from the stage. The sermon messages are biblically sound, relevant, and challenging. I appreciate that there are many fellowship opportunities, as well as various ways I can serve and volunteer. I’m so glad I found Five Oaks for my church home! When we were preparing to move to Minnesota last fall I searched local churches and listened to countless sermons from area pastors. We began praying months in advance for our new church so that we could find it quickly and it be exactly where God could use us the best. What caught my ear from Pastor Henry’s sermons was his focus on discipleship.
He teaches in a way that grows our knowledge, yes, but he encourages us to disciple others. He doesn’t build his sermons around a topic and then fits scripture in, he builds his sermons around scripture and adds a topic. People have different preferences, but this was the kind of teaching we were searching for.
The kids program uses The Gospel Project, where the kids learn the same passage we do. It makes it easy to help them answer the question of ‘what did you learn about today.’ In our sermon notes we also have family discussion questions to help us to continue to talk about what we learned.
Something I love about Five Oaks is that they don’t want you to come on the weekend to contribute to their numbers. They want you to come to learn so your relationship with Christ can deepen and also so you can share with others. They offer so many resources to help you learn do so outside of corporate worship-> small groups, a mentoring program, a multi week class that covers the entire Bible, local missions and missions abroad, etc.
They do a great job of supporting you as a believer, as a spouse, and as a parent. The staff is very approachable and extremely welcoming. We didn’t know anyone when we moved here, but after our first month we had met some great friends. Thank you, Five Oaks, for being our family when we’re so far away from our own!
(June 21, 2019, 3:30 pm)I prayerfully sorted for a home church and God led me to Five Oaks; a church with people who care so much about you regardless of your background. Five Oaks is all about propagating the gospel and helping the community. I'm happy to call Five Oaks my home church and my kids love it whenever it is time to go the Lord's house. The entire member of my small group have been very supportive of me and i couldn't have asked for a better church to be part of!
