Well, I filed my first insurance claim after Hurricane Zeta, but when I called Sound, Jennifer told me Insurance had “expired”22 days prior! Although my mortgage company confirmed Sound Insurance received my payment of $1700., and the check cleared before October 1, 2020, but my policy was not renewed. Where did my money go, I still don’t know, but Jennifer wrote a new policy on October
25, 2020, the day after Hurricane Zeta,
backdated the new policy, increased my
deductible and threatened to cancel the coverage after two months if I didn’t “pass my inspection”! I still had not
received ANY help removing the two Oak trees uprooted in my back yard, which had fallen into my neighbors yard and onto my roof. Estimating the amount of $8000. in damages to my home, this new company issued a $2500 check! I called furiously asking why they took so much of the settlement, their reply was “we don’t know; we are just a 3rd party who issues checks”. I had enough to remove the Oak trees, but nothing left to fix the damages to my house! I AM NOT SURE WHY MY POLICY EXPIRED, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED anything in writing warning me about my policy expiration. My old insurance company even called me asking if I needed to make a claim and I explained what Sound Insurance had done, and they said I should file a complaint with the MS Insurance Commissioner. MS Windstorm Underwriters Association was just baffled when they called me and felt terrible for me! Not to mention my mortgage payment increased from $455 to $662 a month!!!
So, I’m not sure what exactly happened to the $1700 check my mortgage company issued Sound Insurance for my homeowners insurance, but it was cashed 30 days before Hurricane Zeta!
