The grounds and historical buildings are well maintained and the park holds several different events throughout the year. Went during their trick or treating event and thought the volunteers did a wonderful job. Several living historians on site along with members from a local boy scout troop handing out candy.
Amazing! A must see, even for young families. Lots of space for the kids to run around and very friendly volunteers. The reenactments are so fun!
My wife and I took our goddaughter and her father to First Saturdays last weekend. It was a convenient, last minute idea that we thoroughly enjoyed. I went with my father in the '80s and had never been back until now. So much was the same that nostalgia was overwhelming at times. It's an unforgettable experience for a child. Adults dig it too, especially the reenactments and historical information. Alas, everyone loves the bison!!!
That was a very neat little set-up and I like that everything was close enough together that it wasn't an ungodly walked between the houses but they were spaced far enough apart that it was fairly believable. It's also very neat that they're genuinely historic although I do have to wonder about the headstones outside the church, because unless those are original to that spot that's a little creepy. I think it would be very cool to go to on a day when everything is open and they have their demonstrations unfortunately I missed that, however I will say I drove half an hour out of my way before leaving town for a 3-hour drive to go see this and I do not regret it at all. And also worth mentioning they do have handicap accessible trails which I thought was pretty neat as well and they also have bathrooms on site.
A beautiful collection of historic buildings from around the area that have been moved to this site for preservation. Unfortunately there were no reenactors there when we passed through, but we really enjoyed the visit anyway. There are good signs at each building that include some history and where it was moved from.
