A place of peace, without a doubt. God is everywhere and in everything, but His presence was keenly felt throughout my time here. I went to focus on writing and continuing to deepen my relationship with God. Barbara, who coordinated the reservation, was extremely hospitable. The hermitages are cozy and have everything you need for a simple stay, including coffee pot, microwave, small fridge, etc. The sunrise over the river was truly a reminder of God's creation. A well-stocked library and chapel were available and overlooked the river as well. Recommended beyond five stars!

Holy Ground !!! I have been here many times, never have I been disappointed. Each Hermitage is given a name I was really surprised to see that each Hermitage I was assigned reflected were I was in my spiritual walk. For instance when I was assigned Emmanuel I had been studying the Scriptures and praying for a visitation. The Presence of the Lord was truly there. So much so to where one night while I was praying, I heard a knock at the door but when I open it no one was there .I looked at the clock it was 9:30 PM and pitch black outside. Being the spiritual person that I am😅Lol! I started rebuking the devil and demons and spirits. But when I got quiet and back down on my knees, I hurd everything is not always the devil. I got chill bumps ,afraid, excited and then sad. I had missed my appointed time Of visitation.☹ When I was assigned The Upper Room me and my wife went together but was not on one accord .By the time we left there we was on one accord. There was repentance ,apologies and restoration by God. When I was assigned the glimpse of glory I had been praying to God for his glory . I woke up early one morning to pray , while on my knees eyes closed;I saw a glow a bright glow. I opened my eyes and turned to see the sunrise.Prais be to God I truly understood a glimpse of God’s glory is what I was looking at. I can go on and on about things like this, but would fail to tell you about what else that makes the place so great. On the bluff chairs facing a big cross over looking the river makes for a great place of meditation. Use of the chapel, free use of the library . There is a little kitchen with a sink ,Refrigerator ,utensils ,pots pans , microwave, hot plate and more .All you need to do is bring your own food. There is mosquito repellents and insect sprays and leaning against the wall outside a staff for walking the trails. Each Hermitage has its own shower, toilet and face bowl. All that I’ve described and laid out still don’t compare to actually being there. Why not stop by and take a look, asked to see one of the Hermitage they will allow this. I guarantee, you will be booking you a few days getaway, better yet a retreat.

Such a great spot to spend time with God in a quiet, calm, nature-soaked setting! Affordable accommodations that put you in a relaxed state of mind. Cool trails along the golf course for walking, and some creepy old buildings you could explore, too! I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend it to anyone else.

    Built in 1977.
I cannot find all the the words to express how WONDERFUL VOP is. I find such peace in my mind, body and soul when I stay here. Solitude, prayer, quiet, restful, meditative, peaceful....heavenly. All of the Hermitages are built into the bluffs above the Mississippi River, so cool.
Non profit retreat for those that need a place to retreat to for peace, rest, rejuvenation of their mind, body, soul and for prayer and meditation. You cannot beat the cost per night or per week, $40 per night with no set check in our checkout times (within reason), $200.00 for 6 nights-7 days. The staff are the best. Guided retreats, both individual or groups or self guided individual retreats. Donations are always needed and I will give all that I can to make sure this Beautiful place stays forever.
Thanks Angela for everything! Vision of Peace has helped me greatly since the recent death of my husband. I cant wait to get back there very soon. I wish I could live there and I never want to leave when it's time for me to return home. LOL
    Praise God for VOP!!

Wonderful, simple retreat from the noise of your everyday life. Great place for self-reflection and finding your way.

A few practical details not explicitly mentioned on the website (I stayed in the Emmanuel hermitage):

    - The forest view hermitages are fully surrounded by forest, which means a lot of bugs in the summer! Thankfully, bug spray and a citronella candle were provided.

    - The gravel path/staircase to some of the hermitages (see picture) could be challenging for some. Choose the wheelchair accessible hermitage if you want to avoid the climb.

    - No wifi, and limited cell coverage (AT&T). I could only get reliable (low speed) reception outdoors, and occasionally by one of the windows. Great for unplugging, but may not be for everyone. Other hermitages/carriers may differ.

    - The hermitage was better equipped than I expected from the website. It included shampoo/conditioner, body wash, a hair dryer and toaster oven. Nicely maintained for the age of the building, with many warm touches throughout.

    - Plan on spending some time cleaning for the next occupant before you leave. Everything is well organized to make this simple (checklist, cleaning supplies and bag of towels/linens).

Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a solitary retreat!
