Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Ignore the knickknacks in the beginning, they really detract from everything, but just keep pushing past them until you get to the numbered areas.
Pretty amazing to witness, you might leave with more questions than answers, but that's not a bad thing.
I have visited several times with my kids and I have always enjoyed the walk and history. Trails are maintained but people with mobility issues and strollers will not be able to travel the trails. Snowshoeing in the winter. The set up for the stones with the views are worth the hike. You can walk into small stone structures and hopefully, see the stone table that was recently vandalized by morons who are an argument for birth control. The table was still covered, though I was told that it was to protect it from moisture.
Small museum and gift shop at entrance. Admission is priced reasonably.
I recommend a visit.
Very cool spot to visit. We loved all the history and information. It was 29$ for my family of 4 (5 and under free) with a military discount. Prices are 13$ for adults, 7.50 for kids. A bit steep, but I understand they need to be able to maintain the grounds. The alpacas were my favorite.
As a NH native and history enthusiast it was only natural that I visited this place sooner or later. I first heard about it on the history channel: "History's Mysteries: American Stonehenge." This year I finally got around to seeing it myself and I wasn't disappointed. The site was expansive and there was so much to see and read. It's an adventure from start to finish. Everyone there was so friendly from tourists to the staff, it was delightful. This place is a gem and I'm so thankful it has been preserved so beautifully. What a curious world we live in. Seriously, check this place out if you love history.
Like Stonehenge in England, America's Stonehenge was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year.
Similar to Stonehenge in the UK, America's Stonehenge was built by a culture that were very highly advanced when it came to astronomy, as well as stone construction. Without modern tools, how do you think they might have managed to shape and move all of those amazingly heavy stone blocks?
