“I’m a mid 50’s man that has always went to the gym regularly without much guidance. I began Crossfit a little over a year ago in a local affiliate that focuses on proper body mechanics, weightlifting and the Crossfit approach to varied functional movements at custom scaled versions of intensity. Over the past year, my physique has experienced great revelations on proper form and muscle use. I choose to challenge myself to an intensity that might be a little higher than most 50 year olds. Combine that with my great enthusiasm to push a little harder, and issue areas & weaknesses surfaced. Glad that Cody (Clarkston Physical Therapy) was there to guide me back from injury/hurt. He then began to focus my attention to prevention and prehab for a much better experience and result. Cody has guided me through a couple of issues; Lower Back: when I lost form during exercise, my lower back became agitated. In an exceptionally easy manner, Cody worked with me on some diagnostics that determined my core weaknesses that lead to the back overcompensating. Through simple exercises, guided visual focus and feedback, he provided a self managed routine that has worked extremely well. Most guys around my age talk about avoiding using their back in order to protect it. The combination of Crossfit and Cody has proven to me that “ what you don’t use, you’ll lose.” Shoulder: my left shoulder became soar and had an occasional “pop” with certain movement. I would have attempted to “push through” if it wasn’t for Cody’s guidance to understand and address more fundamentals on the shoulder. Mobility, stretching, caring for the shoulder while continuing to train was exceptional guidance. As a coach, trainer and therapist, Cody continues to lead me down a path of confidence in strength and conditioning. I’m sure I’ve already avoided injury or hurt by following Cody’s holistic approach. His guidance is a compliment to the scaling options of a program like Crossfit or any other workout program.”
