Lummis Park is named in honor of William B. Lummis Jr., after his death on April 14, 1967 at the age of 38.
Mr. Lummis was a member of the Cherry Hill Planning Board and the Cherry Hill Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He was a past president of the Cherry Hill Rotary Club (1964-65) and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Board of Elders of Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Lummis was born in Haddonfield NJ. He owned Pebble Creek Nursery, which operated not far from the park along Marlkress Road, and lived nearby on Indian King Drive in Charleston Woods.
There is a plaque in the park commemorating the planting of a Japanese pagoda tree in honor of Mr. Lummis by his friends The Rotary Club of Cherry Hill.
Brilliant little Park with a whole lot of things to do and has a kid area and a wooded area in the back and a basketball court and also a small area for sunbathing and a couple of tables as well for a picnic lunch
