Went there today to treat myself for lunch. Had the best lobster bisque I have ever had. Followed by the Old Bay steamed shrimp. They were amazing- just wish they were de-veined. Absolutely delicious.
I'm not a big seafood eater but am a sucker for calamari and clam strips.
The polenta crusted fried calamari is amazing. They ran out of clam strips at the time but someone from the kitchen staff came out and suggested they could do whole belly clams instead; it was a good idea and I don't regret saying yes. Both were nicely sized portions and reasonably priced...especially for the quality of the food.
Definitely coming back to try the fish and chips, and hopefully the ahi tuna burger on their lunch specials menu will still be available on my next visit.
Edit: While my experience eating there wasn't impeccable (see below), the customer service was excellent. The owner got in touch with me personally after I posted this review, and offered me a full refund and a replacement soup. My critiques do still remain, but these are easily solvable (more lobster in the roll, a bit more variety in the salad components) - and the flavours were good. So, combined with the excellent post-sales service, I am happy to up my score and give them another chance in the future.
‐-----------
It seems like a well stocked place, and I was excited to try it given the good reviews, but alas my personal experience wasn't great. I'm a big fan of lobster rolls, and understand they are costly, but when I pay 31 dollars for a roll I expect it to be packed with so much lobster that I actually have to pick lobster out of the roll and eat it before tackling the roll (and have had this experience a number of times). It was a tasty roll, and the lobster was well cooked/nicely dressed, but the portioning was a little mean for the price.
I bought some clam chowder to have for dinner, but when I opened it (just a few hours later) the chowder looked off. I heated it up anyway, but tasting it confirmed that it had gone bad. Altogether, this means I am almost fifty dollars out of pocket for an undersized lobster roll and chowder that was off.
My friend had their prawn caesar salad, which had a generous portion of well cooked prawns, with a good and tasty dressing, but it was a little uninspiring as a salad - it had very few croutons, lettuce, and nothing else. So good, but not great. Would be three stars overall, but I'm taking away one star for the chowder being off.
We stopped by Saturday & Sunday since we were in the area for a softball tournament. Been coming for years and love the place. It’s like Christmas every time I walk in. So many options it will make your head spin. The daily lunch specials are awesome. The wife got the lobster roll both days and for the price you get a boatload of lobster. I had the grouper sandwich Saturday and the fish bites Sunday. Also had a dozen assorted oysters on the half shell both days. So fresh! Having the brewery next door makes it great for all. Kids had fun. My kid downed the flounder two days in a row.
Can’t say enough nice things about everyone working there.
I’m semi glad we live 45 minutes away or this place could become a serious problem.
Back in July for another tournament!
We absolutely love this place!!!!!
We drive from PA to Metropolitan Seafood at least a few times a month to get the best seafood. Totally worth the drive. We get many items prepped for us to freeze when we get home so that our visits are well worth the travel.
Today we picked up 10 dozen oysters for “Our 5th Annual Oyster Fest”. They shucked them all for our convenience.
Staff here are always pleasant and knowledgeable. Store is always kept up with pride and it’s wonderful to see the same employees at each visit. We have become familiar faces and it’s always nice to be greeted as if we are old time acquaintances.
This place is a must try if you haven’t and if you have, you have probably recommended Metropolitan Seafood to others.
