(April 30, 2023, 8:25 am)Karl Business Machines is a unique business. Rick is very knowledgeable, resourceful and wonderful. He goes above and beyond to make sure that a quality work is accomplished. I brought in an old Underwood typewriter from the 1940s that needed lots of repair and maintenance. Rick made it work with a number of detailed repairs, replacements and polishes. I am now happy to know that this beautiful typewriter will be used for many years to come.
The best part of working with Rick is that he explained the process and nature of the work the typewriter needed. He is a man of his words!
(April 16, 2023, 7:29 pm)I recently rented a typewriter from Rick at Karl Business Machines and I could not be happier with how everything went. The entire process was so smooth and Rick was so nice to work with. He walked me through everything and helped me find the perfect typewriter. He is extremely knowledgeable and it is easy to see that he is great at what he does and that he enjoys bringing the joy of these machines to the public. The entire process was so smooth and the IBM Selectric I rented was in pristine condition. If you are looking to purchase a vintage typewriter or just trying to rent one for a short time, I highly recommend Karl Business Machines.
(February 7, 2023, 8:15 am)We can't say enough good words about the expertise, commitment, and friendliness of Rick, and the quality of the final output. We live in Washington DC, and my wife had looked for years for someone that could repair a family treasure: her grandfather's typewriter. It was covered in dust through and through, and the keys were uniformly gunked up and slow. It needed a LOT of careful cleaning. Once I talked to Rick, I knew that he knew his business, and that this was the place. So we set a date, and packed up the car to drive up to Mercersville NJ to drop off the machine. Walking into his work place gave us even more confidence, given the variety of machines there, and the quality of care and restoration he had given to many of them, including typewriters going back to the mid 1800s. Like a mini-museum all of its own. Then, once he had cleaned it, we needed to drive back up to NJ, and he even offerred - on a Sunday no less(!!) -- to come a bit closer to DC to shorten our trip. We got extremely lucky in finding him. If you need ANY repair work done to your old typewriters or copying machines, THIS is the place and the person. Thank you Rick!!
(December 6, 2022, 2:32 pm)Rick does outstanding work. His repair work is thorough and reasonably priced and his restoration work is top notch. Rick restored a late 60s Royal 400 standard for me, which I'm very happy with. A recent repair on a 1965 Olympia SM-9 was affordable and the turnaround time was swift. I'd recommend Rick and KBM to anyone needing typewriter maintenance and I definitely plan to bring other machines in my collection to him in the future.
(November 14, 2022, 9:34 am)Absolutely loved working with Rick to find the perfect typewriter! He is a joy to speak with and you can clearly tell he loves his work and is so knowledgable. I have a 3 year old son and I was nervous about a typewriter that might break easily, but Rick helped me choose one that would cope with my threenager. I am so happy with how my color combo came out. I am excited to see it displayed in our home for use and inspiration! Thank you Rick!
