“The southern stretch of Columbus Park runs along the north side of Lakeview Ave at New Market Pond for three quarters of a mile. All of the public lands about the pond are now called, "Columbus Park". This is a good place to walk or jog. There are also ample parking areas and a couple of small boat launches at small gazebos out along ramps extending in to the pond. Across the pond at 200 11th Street are the sports areas, bathrooms, picnic areas, and playground for the children - also part of Columbus Park. People fish here a lot, but heed the signs. The fish are contaminated with cancer-causing PCBs and VOCs from a superfund site in South Plainfield, which is why all those "Do Not Eat The Fish" signs are posted. Be aware of that, and enjoy the park. It is a gem in this suburban landscape, and very scenic.”
