  Needing a stopover to break up a 5-hour excursion from Long Island to Maryland, I had entertained the idea of quiet accommodations in a rural setting as the perfect escape from the traffic, bustle, and cacophony of the densely populated Northeast corridor. Little did I know how well the spectacularly alluring Peacefields Inn would meet those requirements. This impeccably maintained 19th Century farmhouse, set in a pastoral part of New Jersey that will transport you to that very era, could not have been better suited for the occasion. After one of the most restful nights I've ever spent as a traveler (the chorus of katydids alone was enough to lull one to sleep), my experience was enhanced the next morning by a sublime breakfast and walk to a nearby park that had a well-preserved grist mill on the premises. With so much to take in on foot -- in the way both historic and natural attractions -- I lingered at Peacefields far longer than I had intended. For anyone seeking respite, hospitality, and a connection to the past, there is no better place to spend one's time.

  This little gem of a B&B is aptly named. You'll find the 1850-built estate quietly tucked away in the farmlands a few minutes outside of Allentown. Allentown NJ is, itself, a very small, cute town without traffic lights or urban bustle. The house is beautiful and the experience there really was peaceful, restful, quiet. The innkeepers, Cathy and Bill, went out of their way to make us feel at home. They were very helpful with suggestions for things to do in the area and were very helpful throughout the booking process, too. Wonderful people. The room was comfortable, well-decorated, and sizable. The breakfast was like one you would get at a five-star restaurant-creative, delicious fair. I cannot recommend this B&B more highly. We had a wonderful experience without a single regret. If we're passing through, we would absolutely stay here again.
