“The incredible thing about this place is how they've perfected every dish they make. Take the cannoli - they fry the shells in top grade shortening to prevent it from being the slightest bit soggy. The cream its subtly sweetened with confectioners sugar and flavored with vanilla extract, but the detail that sets it apart is the superfine ricotta base that has a consistency of cream cheese. The selection of house-made pastas is something you don't find anywhere but Arthur Avenue. My roast beef sandwich was not roasted at all. A sous-vide machine was perfectly utilized to tenderize the meat, then served with house-made focaccia bread and topped with mozzarella, which I witnessed being gently molded out of melted curds. An unassuming corner store packed wall to wall with a quality you just can't find. But hey, they've had the better part of 40 years to work out the kinks, if they ever had them at all. By the way, there will probably be three generations of the family there at any given time. Pray nonna is flipping zeppole in the back.”
